"Charlie Mike" won 2nd Place in the Oregon Writers' Colony contest, Short Stories Both True and Imagined. A portion of the prize money will be used for troop support projects, in memory of Navy SEAL Michael A. Monsoor.

As his best friend told me, Michael Monsoor was "a true protector, even before he joined the Navy." Writing this story to honor him has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Although "Charlie Mike" is fiction, I wrote the character Mikey to represent Michael Monsoor to the best of my ability. I am honored beyond measure to have my name associated with his even in this small way.
